Since I can remember this has been my favorite song. The words always tear through me and stay echoing in my ears.
Maybe in the world we live in it is a bit idealistic and naive, but I am certain of one thing. Fear and hate are two of the strongest emotions we can experience as humans and they dictate a lot of our actions, but love will always be stronger. When it comes to the heart of it we are all human. We are all the same. We are an infinitesimal speck in the greater universe all trying to understand our existence, and trying to give it meaning. I've never understood why we are so eager to separate ourselves as a whole instead of understanding we are all one in the same and uniting to sort through our seemingly random existence to make humanity's small time on this planet as smooth and beautiful as it can be.
Now you may say I am a dreamer, but I'm not the only one! In this time of human on human inflicted terror I am frightened for our safety and I am frightened for our species, but I still believe in love and right now I am sending all my love and all my energy around the world to France, to Lebanon, to Turkey, to Africa, and to everywhere else that has been affected in recent months by horrible and senseless acts of violence.
僕は昔からこの歌が大好きなんだ。歌詞がいつも僕の心に突き刺さって、耳の中で鳴り響くんだ。
僕たちが生きる世界で、それは少し理想主義的で純真すぎる考え方かもしれないけれど、僕には確信していることがひとつある。恐怖と憎しみという2つの感情は強力で、僕たち人間はその感情に支配されて行動することも多いけれど、愛は必ずそれに打ち勝つ。一番大切なことは、僕たちはみんな同じ人間だということだ。僕たちはみんな広大な宇宙の中の小さな小さな存在で、自分はなぜここにいるのか、何のために生きるのか、その答えを探し続けてるんだ。僕にはどうしても理解できないよ。なぜ人々はそれほどまでに自分を他と区別したがるんだろう。そうじゃなくて、一見バラバラに見えるかもしれないけれど、自分たちはみんな同じだと理解して、この星で起こってるたくさんの問題が可能な限りいい方向に向かうように、ひとつにまとまることはできないのかな。
僕は夢を見てると言う人もいるかもしれないね。でもこう思ってるのは僕だけじゃないはずだ！人間が人間を傷つけるこの恐ろしい世の中で、僕は自分たちの身の安全、そして人類の未来に対しても恐怖を抱いてる。でも愛の力もまだ信じてるんだ。今ここで、僕の愛とエネルギーの全てを送るよ。フランスと、レバノンと、トルコと、アフリカと、そして人の心を失った恐ろしい暴力行為によって危険にさらされている全ての場所へ。
この文章を書くきっかけになったのはパリでのテロですが、パリのことだけではなく、レバノン、トルコ、アフリカはじめ世界中の多くの場所で、恐ろしい暴力行為によってたくさんの命が失われていることにも言及しているのを読んで、ああ、ジェレミーらしいなぁと思いました。アイスバケツチャレンジの時もそうでしたが、周りに流されず、常に確固たる自分を持っているところもジェレミーの魅力だと私は思っています。
